Project Description
Transfer Studio was commissioned to make designs for the Royal Festival Hall. The project aimed at reintroducing a forgotten gift to the British people from the Indonesian people - the gamelan instrument. Our design included a recognisable visual language that would encourage visitors to participate and engage with the instrument and artists as well as an outdoor pavilion that would host a 48-hour jam session. Our response was to rethink the instrument boxes as a multiuse kit that could live beyond the event itself and be used for not only storing and transporting the instruments, but also function as mobile seating to create meeting places as well as displaying information about the instruments.
