The Smalls Community

The Smalls Community

New technology available on the web, MP3 players and mobile phones has created the opportunity to enjoy moving images wherever we are. Filmmakers have never had a better opportunity to get an audience for their work as the web is widening the tight bottlenecks that used to be short film festivals and short film slots in broadcasters’ schedules.

After successfully having produced The Smalls visual identity, our collaboration with the enthusiastic curator of independent short film continued as we were appointed to develop their online community platform – TheSmalls.com.

Our response was to produce an easy-to-use web 2.0 online platform that was user-centred and allowed for quick and easy uploading of content such as films, show reels, resumes and music. The website brings together new talent from the UK and around the world and invites the public and commissioners of content, such as advertisers and broadcasters, to view, rate and comment on their films.

Combining a clear interface, seamless information architecture, transparent interactivity and playful detailing we managed to bring the community to life in a space that is a true manifestation of its essence, a sanctuary where the users have a connection with the original values of the organisation that supports a constructive exchange on creative work and creates opportunities for creatives to get commissioned and find employment within the industry.

The Smalls is now a leading online social network for people in filmmaking and broadcasting and collaborates with among others Apple, Virgin, Nokia and Creative Review.
